The Need and Importance of Individual development planning in Business Organization

An individual development plan, also named an IDP, is a document completed by individual for the plan of self-development over the next period, usually one year. This plan is then reviewed and discussed by supervision to match the individual goals with company goals.

One of the many important objectives of a business entity that wants to work in the most constructive terms leading a business towards the desired level of success is to make the individual development plan for its employees and work accordingly.

Individual development plans are concerned with strengthening employee competencies, efficiency and effectiveness, which in turn leads to improve the overall organizational effectiveness efficiency and development. Thus making the IDP- individual development plans for the employees is of great value and importance for an organization, as it adds great value to it by attaining desired level of competence and performance.

In order that the objective behind the individual development plan may be accomplished in a way as wanted, human resource management plays a vital role, as it undertakes various responsibilities in connection with arranging performance evaluation and individual development plans for the employees belonging to different divisions or departments. The purpose behind the whole process of performance evaluation and development plan is to propose changes or the ways for individual development by examining the existing skills of the employees.

The process involves conducting various tests, such as, answering objective type questions, role play methods, undergoing particular tests that help the concerned personnel of human resource department or the manager to assess the knowledge, skills and experience required for performing related tasks. It also necessitates the employees to demonstrate their presentation skills.

The IDP- individual development planning is meant for better performance of the employees. The process of the individual development plan-IDP leads to greater efficiencies of a business entity, as each and every employee begins to contribute to the common goals of a business. It is through the individual development plans that the employees can bring a good change in their behavior and performance, as they are supposed to attend several training programs to enhance their skills, competence level and performance.
