Why is criticism good for writers?

“Take criticism seriously, but not personally. If there is truth or merit in the criticism, try to learn from it. Otherwise, let it roll right off you. “ – Hillary Clinton

While it’s true that no one likes being criticized, criticism can be a good thing. Hence, considering the form of criticism and accepting it to bring improvements accordingly is one of the greatest qualities of a person. Regardless of professions, one needs to  welcome positive criticism always, as it not only leads to develop a desirable personality, but it also helps in many ways in making a successful life.

To make your name as a good writer, it is good to accept criticism. So, in addition to learning how to successfully incorporate your personal experience and observation in creating valuable contents, it is of great importance and assistance to accept criticism from the readers. There might be a lot of positive aspects of criticism that may help us in strengthening our abilities of writing. It might help one to improve his or her  writing style that could be of great help in the writing career.

The first point in this discussion is to consider the importance of criticism in your writings. Criticism may be regarded as an important element of a writer’s success. Instead of tending to being against it or disapprove it, we should learn how to deal with it with a good grace and appreciation. This is because, featuring wit, wisdom, ideas, awareness, criticism can help us grow as writers successfully, while it enables us to make improvements in terms of our writing style. It is therefore while weighing pros and cons of criticism, you need to take even cons as positive elements sometimes, as they show you the ways for more developments in the process of creating contents. So you can increase their value and usefulness. In this way, the purpose of creating valuable contents can be successfully fulfilled.

Also, it is better to consider that receiving criticism or negative feedback from the readers is far better than not getting any response at all to your writings. A negative feedback can provide you at least this sort of benefit that you begin to consider in what ways you can bring development in your writing skills, whereas no response can cause you to fall behind others in the race resulting into slackening your strength and intensity.

It’s not that accepting criticism is important for writers only. Regardless of professions, it’s good for every individual to accept criticism if it is helpful in making improvements. Accepting criticism leads to develop better personality, while rejecting it, even if it needs to be accepted, is a sign of proud or arrogance.

One should always remind oneself what has been stated by Sima Qian, “Though bitter, good medicine cures illness. Though it may hurt, loyal criticism will have beneficial effects.”  ThusPositive or constructive criticism provides us opportunities to improve our abilities. It should be considered as one of the best ways to grow as writers, as it can provide us opportunities for advancements, while analyzing criticism one can gather facts and useful information that in turn enables one to become a better writer.
